F
or generations, fossil fuel corporations have targeted Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities with extractive projects and toxic pipelines that pollute and contaminate our air, water, and soil. These same corporations also drive climate chaos, which is experienced first and worst by communities of color across the globe in the form of more extreme and more frequent severe weather events.
Meanwhile, Wall Street banks, asset managers, private equity firms, and other financial institutions prop up the fossil fuel industry by pumping billions of dollars into the sector every year.
At ACRE, we approach climate justice by working with philanthropic partners, climate justice organizations, financial reform groups, and our state and local partners in the Bargaining for the Common Good network to develop a divest/invest strategy around climate finance. We are fighting for public pension funds to divest from financial firms financing climate destruction and instead put that money toward creating a publicly-owned asset manager that would invest in sustainable projects.
