Send a letter to your mayor: ‘No Cops, No Banks with our ARPA money’
As you may know, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to send federal recovery money directly to communities, especially ours who have been harmed the most by the economic and health impacts of the pandemic.
Local government officials are attempting to use this money to pay off loans to banks and the Biden administration has issued a memo directing them to use the money for policing.
Earlier this summer we joined 50+ organizations across the country to demand that the Department of Treasury direct ARPA spending away from cops, banks and more corporate tax cuts. In advance of that decision we are asking that you encourage your friends, families and neighbors to make the same demand of your mayor.
Budgets are moral documents and city budgets should prioritize housing, childcare, quality education and other true public safety measures and not cops and banks.
